Pictured is one of the student lutes I recently completed. It doesn’t sound nor play like any student lute I have come across. The Alpine spruce top enables it to hold its own with many lutes costing much more.

It is loosely based on a Hans Frei with a string length of 62cm. The top, as mentioned earlier, is of Alpine spruce. The ribs are of maple or ash and the neck is solid walnut. Fingerboard and half-binding are of dark, hard tropical hardwood. The lute also features rosewood pegs and comes with a ply case. All in all, at $2,000, this is one of the best values available.
